Did you know the month of April gets its name from the Latin word aperio, which means to “to open or bud”, because plants are starting to bud?

How very interesting as this month has also been designated Abortion Recovery Awareness Month. Often times we think of the recovery process as daunting and painful and we try to avoid walking through the steps of healing but the growth that comes from going through recovery can be freeing and absolutely empowering.

Recovery from the trauma of a past abortion or abortions is about realizing the impact that decision had on your life. It’s about becoming aware that the anger, depression, shame, and anxiety you feel may be due to your abortion, and about acknowledging that pain so that you can take the necessary steps to make a positive change in your life.

You have to surrender your suffering to the Lord. “Give it to God”, as we have all heard before. Letting go of that hurt and digging in to that deep-rooted pain is probably the hardest part of healing. It is a lot like gardening, sometimes you have to dig up the plant by the roots in order to replant it in an environment where it can thrive.

Once you have given that burden, that suffering, to the Lord, you can prepare to move forward and be ready to embrace the willingness to accept change in your life. Accepting change, will allow you to start peeling away the layers of trauma so you can live in the present. As you walk through the healing process, you will begin to see your past decisions and your current situation in a new light. When the scales are removed from your eyes (Acts 9:18 reference), you begin to see life from a better perspective.

The road to recovery is continuous. The Lord is always revealing to us areas in our lives that He needs to reach. He may be planting seeds now so you are ready to embrace what He has in store for you!

Many Blessings,

Kara
